Ambivalent Landscapes

The spatial-temporal density that characterizes the transition into the new millennium, with all the psychological depth and breadth this implies, is transforming the perception of the present into a magnetic experience capable of polarizing the future and attracting the past in a magical alchemical process by means of which it becomes possible to manage the memory and the reasoned projection of the imagination in a harmonious manner, without danger of either the past or the future gaining the upper hand, thus opening the door to a present magnetism, albeit a magmatic manifestation thereof.
1. The present as a catalyst of past experience and expectations regarding the future: the keys to understanding/interpreting the memory and the project to be applied to the spatial and temporal dimensions of the «magnetic present».
2. The landscape as a representational model for a new «profundity of experience» in terms of the local territory, as a visual and emotional narrative that fascinates the person experiencing it, establishing a direct and profound bond with experiencing subject.
3. Biography as an expressive form by means of which one endeavors to recompose a multiple identity in the present, in both its spatial and temporal manifestations, creating a stable and balanced equilibrium between past and future.
4. Society has prepared itself for the transition into the new millennium by writing a collective biography of events, news and representative personalities of the period that has just elapsed, lingering over the lives of particular individuals who have managed to incorporate the completeness of an age or a person.
5. The dawn of the third millennium leads us to deal with the future by expressing it in terms of its temporal dimension: from the remote age in which technological projects fade into science-fiction scenarios to the period right on the threshold of the new millennium which has already begun.
6. The prospect of the new millennium is the spark that serves to kindle a renewed creativity which is dealt with by the business community from a «magnetic» and pre-visional point of view rather than taking a passive, static sort of approach.
7. The past tells its story, providing the basis upon which to construct the present and the future, ancient myths and heroes are once more rendered modern and contemporary because they are the vehicles of universal values and therefore a stimulus for the creation of new charismatic figures in contemporary society.
8. The archetype of eclecticism stands in sharp contrast to the more universal classic model, representing richness, creativity and layering as transversal guidelines for all the areas in which they are applied, from the arts and communication to the study of the past.
9. The just concluded century of modernity is revealing itself to be a rich cauldron from which to draw creative stimuli and myths whose fascination and allure is still very strong, and all without a logical order, taking recourse instead to an approach that is «magmatic» and confused, but all the more interesting for this very reason.
10. Of the entire 20th century the period that comes back most powerfully would be the 60s in order to reconstruct the historic memory by means of things, fashion and, especially the music of the period.
